We at Dreyer Linen have been supplying the hospitality industry for over 60 years. Below we present a few valuable tips that you should consider before purchasing bedroom, bathroom, or table linen.

Bedroom Linen
Thread Count

Fitted sheets, flat sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, and night skirts are available in various thread counts. Thread counts measure the number of threads along the warp and weft in every square inch of a fabric. The word "percale" indicates a minimum count of 180 threads per square inch. Percales can extend to as much as 1000 threads per square inch. Generally, a higher thread count indicates a better quality and longer lasting fabric. Percales are normally only available in white, cream, and stone. Non-percale fabrics are available in various colours. We currently stock both 100% cotton and 50/50 polycotton blends in the percale that counts 200 and 400 threads per square inch.

Cotton vs. Polyester

Being a natural fiber, cotton is softer, more pliable, breathes better, and retains moisture. However, polyester creases far less, and is easier to care for than cotton. Polyester can be pressed with a cool iron and dries quicker than cotton. The two fibers can be blended to form polycotton. A 50/50 polycotton blend is generally preferred. Polycotton attempts to reach a compromise between longevity and comfort on the one hand, and crisp looks and easy care qualities on the other.

Oxford, Satin Stitch, and Embroideries

More up market establishments often add a dash of class to their bed linen by incorporating oxford, oxford satin stitch, or ladder lace finishes. Some even personalize their linen with an embroidered logo.

Bathroom Linen

For best absorbency towels should be 100% cotton. Qualities are defined by the weight per square meter. A heavier towel will be more absorbent and last longer. The majority of towels are woven; however, some towels are knitted. The knitting process strengthens the yarn and helps to prevent snagging or pulling. The most popular colors are white and cream, but other colors are usually available. The following table presents various qualities usually purchased by different star establishments.

Table Linen

Fancy jacquards and dobby checks, where the design is woven into the fabric, are standard in more up market establishments. Jacquards and dobbys are available in white and cream. In addition, heavy duty plain dyed tablecloths, overlays and serviettes are available in a variety of colors.

Blankets

Hospitality blankets are usually acrylic, but are sometimes blended with cotton. We offer a locally made acrylic blanket for 2-5 star establishments, and a blended micro fiber blanket imported from Germany for more exclusive hotels and B&Bs.
